Cortina d’Ampezzo
Cortina is 140 km away from the Venice airport and 130 km from Bolzano. It is located in the Province of Belluno, between the three regions of Veneto, Trentino and Alto Adige, and lies at an altitude of 1224 metres above sea level. Cortina d’Ampezzo has a population of about 6000.
The town is nestled in a wide valley carved out by the Boite torrent; it is surrounded by 360° of marvellous mountains, which are the Ampezzo Dolomites.
Everyone considers Cortina to be one of the most beautiful places in the world; it is also called “Queen of the Dolomites” for its unforgettable mountains, which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage.
Anyone who comes to Cortina will come back. Celebrities like Hemingway, Montanelli, Brigitte Bardot, Clark Gable, Ingrid Bergman, Fred Buscaglione and Alberto Sordi used to come here, giving it that image of the “Dolce Vita” that is still palpable today.
