TOFANA DI MEZZO

Climb time: 3:30 hours then descend by cable car

Descent time: it is advisable to use the cable car

Difficulty: high

One of the most demanding, but also most spectacular, via ferratas in the Dolomites. Different starting points, but just one arrival: the highest peak of the Ampezzo Valley. This via ferrata mostly develops on the ridge of the mountain, and it offers a breath-taking view all along the itinerary, if you are going to Cortina as well as in the opposite direction, to the 5 Torri. The suggested starting point is Capanna Ra Valles, following the path along the Cacciatori chairlift, and arriving at Cima Tofana, to then descend downhill by cable car.

TOFANA DI DENTRO

FERRATA FORMENTON

Climb time: 5:00 hours, then descend with the cable car

Descent time: Come up with the lifts,then it’s a 4:00 hour descent to Ra Valles

Difficulty: Medium

The itinerary, of medium difficulty, is very impressive, because it allows you to climb up two different peaks of the Tofane mountain range in a short time, the Tofana di Mezzo and the Tofana di Dentro. All along this via ferrata, you will meet remains of the Great War, which was fought on these peaks, and you can even enter some of the galleries, which were dug into the rock by soldiers.

PUNTA ANNA

Climb time: 6:00 hours then descend with the cable car

Descent time: it is advisable to use the cable car

Difficulty: high

Set off from the Rifugio Pomedes, where the Olivieri-Punta Anna via Ferrata begins immediately and leads to the Punta Anna peak at 2,731 m with spectacular views of the Cortina valley and its surrounding mountains. Along the trail you will cross trough the famous Bus Tofana (Tofana Hole). It is a natural hole created by the force of wind.

OLIVIERI-WAY

Climb time: 2:00 hours then descend with the cable car

Descent time: 2:00 hours then catch the chairlift down from Pomedes

Difficulty: easy

This easy via ferrata allows you to comfortably walk from Pomedes to Ra Valles, and thanks to its position, it offers to the climbers some unique panoramic glimpses. You can climb it in both directions!

Height difference in the ascent: approx. 280 m

Access time to the trail via ferrata: 20-30 min.

Time for the via ferrata: approx. 1:15 hrs.

Time for the descent: 15-20 min. (approx. 110 m downhill) to the cable car station of Ra Valles.
